Executing a flawless display of sonic despair, Ruined's latest offering from Glowing Window Recordings--Hunter's Premonition--is the first release from the band as a two-piece unit, and showcases the band at their full, exasperated potential. Eschewing the commonly perceived notion of what a drum and bass doom outfit can accomplish, this four-song offering simultaneously acknowledges its predecessors in two-person gloom (early Om, The Body), while existing in its very own realm of dreary violence. Melodic bass-lines share space with lilting vocals reminiscent of Sore Eyelids-esque modern emo, before becoming lost in a sea of low-end distortion, wherein vile growls occasionally summon a darker sentiment underneath the dismal churn.
